” We’re going to make it clear that anyone collecting unemployment who is offered a suitable job must take the job or lose their unemployment benefits,” Joe Biden said in remarks from the White House.

President Joe Biden also said there will be a few COVID-19 related exceptions, so that people are not forced to choose between work and safety. However, his administration asserts that refusing work is not an option. As we all know many Americans are still receiving unemployment checks. The American Rescue Plan Act, which was signed into law in March of 2021, offered an extra $300 in weekly unemployment benefits through September. The Labor Department will send out letters providing the specific rules of unemployment benefits.

Unemployment Benefit Rules

Employees who refuse a suitable offer of employment will no longer be eligible for benefits.

An unspecified general about COVID-19 is not a suitable reason to turn down a valid offer of employment.

Workers can continue to receive benefits if they turn down down a job for a COVID-19 related reason. So if an individual is offered a job at location that is not complying with both federal and state mandates. Workers who have children at home who are unable to attend school as a result of the pandemic. With that being said I am apart of the generation known to say “Fuck that job if it does not pay me enough or destroys me health.” I do believe it is important to follow standards and rules to avoid legal consequences. However, if you are not content with your unemployment status or employment then it is important that you acquire new skills. Great ways to make more money are dividend stocks, crypto, e-commerce, and cyber security. The great thing about the internet is there are various avenues that allows someone to create a side hustle or a new business. I am not opposed to working a 9 to 5 job. I still work one right now myself however I making moves outside of it so it is not permanent for me.

According to Forbes magazine less than 50% of U.S. workers feel that they are in good jobs. Many people feel that they are underemployed and stuck in their jobs. Additionally, millennials currently hold 4.8% of the wealth in America. The largest generation in American history pursued higher education and became the most educated group in America. But this generation (1981-1996) is currently the poorest generation in American history. I always examine everything in the realm of economics and how it has impacted my generation. Despite student loan debt and other challenges it is my belief that applied knowledge and high income skills can reshape the trajectory of one’s life.
